Frequently Asked Questions
GETTING STARTED
Yes! Pre-birth sign up and initial delivery is recommended. Schedule a free, Virtual 30 minute demonstration and have your supplies delivered at least 2 weeks prior to your due date, then just e-mail us to activate the account after your baby is born.
It takes up to 3 weeks for us to establish your account. You can sign up as far in advance as you'd like, but be sure to allow at least 3 weeks for account and profile creation. We schedule your first diaper delivery to occur approximately 7-10 days before your due date. If your baby is already born or your expect to deliver sooner than 3 weeks’ time than simply sign up and allow up to 3 weeks for us to deliver your first set of diapers.
When you sign up for service, basic packages start at 80 diapers, we set aside 160 diapers for your use. Eighty of these are delivered week one and the second Eighty are delivered week two. From week three on, we will deliver the number of diapers you returned the week before assuming the diapers you haven't returned are in your possession and clean.
Diaper Rotation Example:
Week 1: We drop off 80 diapers
Week 2: We drop off 80 diapers, we pick up 75 dirty diapers
Week 3: We drop off 75 diapers, we pick up 78 dirty diapers
Week 4: We drop off 78 diapers, we pick up 72 dirty diapers
Yes. The same amount of diapers that you put out for pick up each week are returned to you each week.
Most babies require cloth diapering for at least 24 months. Some cloth diapered babies are potty trained earlier than disposable diapered babies. Another great reason to choose cloth diapering!
SUPPLIES NEEDED
Most diapers come in 4 sizes based on the weight of the baby.
• Newborn: Under 5 lbs
• Infant: 5 - 15 lbs
• Regular: 15 - 35lbs lbs
• Toddler: 35+ lbs
• 5-6 diaper covers
• 2-4 Snappi fasteners/pins
• 1 heavy duty diaper pail & liners
*Please note that for twins & multiples, we suggest purchasing double the amount of accessories.
A waterproof diaper cover that closes with Velcro or snaps on each side of the diaper will do.
We recommend 5 covers per child per size.
Yes- but not just any cream! Do not use creams containing cod liver oil or other fish oil as it will permanently stain or damage our cotton pre-folds. Steer clear of those! There is a charge for missing or damaged rental items of $3 per diaper.
Yes, we recommend a cloth-friendly diaper pail. The diaper pail should be large enough to hold 14 gallon (1 week of diapers) and lock in odors.
Note: Do not use any type of diaper pail that binds diapers in plastic bags (this includes but is not limited to) Diaper Genie, Diaper Dekor, etc. Another simple alternative is to use a trash can with a lid, hamper, bin with a 14+ gallon capacity and a cloth diaper pail liner.
DIAPER MAINTENANCE
It's not necessary to soak or rinse your diapers. When you take the diaper off of the baby, just roll it into the diaper pail.
Please refer to the Wash And Care instructions provided on the garment. A general rule of thumb is that diaper covers are washed at home.
Generally, stains are harmless and have no impact regarding the diapers absorption and sanitation. Some diapers may develop stains, but they are no cause for alarm, as they are simply a visual imperfection. All diapers are washed thoroughly and completely, including complete disinfection and sanitation.
*Please note that during routine inspection, if a diaper has (major stains, consistency alterations, holes, etc), it will be pulled from circulation. While we make every effort to pull diapers as necessary, some may fall through cracks.
To ensure you continue to receive high quality products during inspection, we randomly select a few diapers and have them sent to an independent lab where they are tested for any residual residue, microbes, bacteria, etc. To guarantee that each diaper is 100% sanitized, we also test for pH balance.
We use commercial wash extractors to wash soiled diapers using minimal chemicals at extremely high temperatures. To fully clean, sanitize, and have pH balanced diapers we use a DFE-certified by the EPA detergent that is plant based.
PICK UPS
Since our drivers begin their routes very early, please set out your soiled diapers the night before your delivery day.
The deodorizer should be attached to the interior of the bin to be most effective. Do not place the deodorizer in with the diapers. It is likely to end up in the wash where it will damage diapers.
During sign-up, you'll be asked to list a secure pick up location. Unfortunately calling, buzzing or unlocked doors aren’t acceptable. This is to ensure a quick and secure pick up location. You can choose to leave it:
• in front of your apartment or door via your doorman
• inside your unlocked vestibule or lobby
• in front your apartment door
• inside your locked vestibule or lobby
• inside your locked outdoor bin
Please note if a key is required you’ll need to provide us with a key.
EMERGENCIES
If you forget to put your soiled diapers out for pickup, your driver will still deliver your week's clean diapers. We will contact you for an alternate pick up time. We understand that you live a busy life and accidents do happen but, we will have to charge an additional $10 pick-up fee if this occurs more than TWO times.
Please let us know and we will do our best to locate any missing items. If item is found we will gladly return it on your next scheduled pick-up. Please keep all personal items and disposable products out of the delivery bag. We cannot be responsible for any lost items left in the soiled diaper bag, including other cloth diapering accessories. The Cloth Courier is also not responsible for any accidental cleaning of lost items. If you place trash or disposable wipes in the laundry bag, The Cloth Courier has the right to charge you up to $2.00 per item.
Believe it or not, this unfortunately can happen. We ask that you make sure that you place your bag in a secure location. If, however, a bag does get stolen we will split the cost of the stolen bag with our customer. Customer must file an incident report with police as well as provide us with a DC# (district control number) given by the police.
Please contact us 2 weeks in advance of your vacation to make arrangements. We allow a maximum of 4 “vacation week" credits each year. If you would like to use cloth on your trip, arrangements can be made to supply you with the necessary items or place a hold on your service until you return.
DAY CARE
Contrary to popular belief, as per the Department of Health guidelines, cloth diapering is not banned from daycare facilities. There is guideline literature available that can be provided to you and/or your childcare provider. If your childcare provider or facility is still uncertain about using the cloth diapering method, don’t worry! Contact us and we can set you up for part-time services.
Generally childcare facilities do support the Cloth diapering method. However, keep in mind that childcare facilities’ do reserve the right to deny this service. Start off by communicating with facility administrators about your desire to cloth diaper your child. All that might be mandatory is that parents provide a disposable bag for dirty diapers. We offer cloth diapering support for facilities and parents. Contact us immediately to remedy any problems.
Don’t Quit! Uncertain childcare facilities do not have to be a deal breaker when it comes to cloth diapering. There’s a resolution to any problem.
ENDING SERVICE
We sincerely hope you’re only cancelling service because your child is potty trained. If you are canceling for any other reason, please let us help and fix the problem! To cancel, please e-mail us with at least one week's notice. All diapers clean and dirty must be returned on the day you cancel. We will do a final count on incoming diapers to determine how many are missing or unusable. There is a charge for missing or damaged rental items ($3 per diaper).
As a part of the cloth diapering service, you are renting the diapers. In the event that your child grows out of one size return that full set and we’ll switch out your next order to reflect a bigger size (at no additional cost of course). When your baby is potty trained or you decide to cancel services just turn your full set of diapers back in at your scheduled final pick up.
Refunds are not given for unused service within the first 2 weeks. However, if you potty train earlier than expected a refund for remaining prepaid service can be arranged.
